The continuing trend miniaturization into the micrometer range demands innovative machining tools to meet the associated requirements for precision and quality. Recently, ultrashort pulsed lasers with pulse durations in the pico- and femtosecond range have demonstrated their potential to meet such requirements and have also advanced completely new manufacturing approaches. However, for further progress, applications in the ultraviolet spectral range are constrained by the limited lifetime of the optical elements in the laser sources as well as in the optical beam paths.
The aim of this international projects is to develop new optical elements and laser-optical systems for ultra-short pulsed high-power lasers in the ultraviolet spectral range and to open up new industrial applications.
