Sustainability must not remain something only individuals do, but must be jointly conceived and implemented by many people together. The Green Office was founded for this purpose. The Green Office of Aschaffenburg UAS is an association of students and employees who share the common goal of shaping and promoting the sustainable development of the university. In this way, AB UAS can become even more future-oriented and sustainable. The Green Office supports, coordinates and implements sustainable projects and is the place to contact for all questions and ideas regarding the topic of sustainability.
The members determine the focus and cooperation within the Green Office by conducting meetings, discussions and votes. The Green Office thrives on its democratic structures and by all members participating. This ensures that the ideas of university members are integrated into the process and implemented in a prioritised manner.
The Green Office has been a member of the Green Office Movement, the umbrella organisation for green offices worldwide, since 1 January 2022. Membership encourages members to network among each other as well as exchanged ideas.
In the founding phase in the winter semester 2021/2022, the team developed ideas, prioritised them and worked them out in detail. In the summer semester of 2022, the Green Office implemented its first projects.
Together with the Landesbund für Vogelschutz (LBV) (state society for bird protection), we are investigating how the campus can be made more insect-friendly. This applies not only to our existing and new plants on campus, but also to planned flower strips and insect hotels.
A garden for all university members is to be created on the campus grounds by the end of 2023. The Green Office is significantly involved in developing the concept. We are also in close exchange with sustainability initiatives of other universities and colleges.
AB UAS participated in the annual city cycling event for the first time and came in 5th. In total, 66 university members cycled more than 10,500 kilometres together and thus contributed avoiding more than 1,600 kg of CO₂.
In order to free unused books from the shelves and pass them on to other university members, a bookcase was launched - together with the university library. Specialist books, but also novels and other literature can find a new home there.
Regular meetings are held on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Campus 1 in Building 20, Room E14. Anyone who is interested can join at any time. At the meetings, we discuss current issues, plan projects and often enjoy an evening together.
Students, lecturers and staff, i.e. all university members, are welcome to enrol directly in the Moodle course Sustainability/Green Office.
We are also happy about any external cooperations and partnerships. Please feel free to contact us.
