Urgent Need for Affordable Housing Leads to Appeal for Public Support in and around Aschaffenburg

The English-language degree programs "Software Design International" (Bachelor’s) and "International Management" (Master’s) are drawing more and more students from around the globe. This surge in interest has created a higher demand for student housing in Aschaffenburg.

Growth in International Programs Brings New Challenges

Internationally focused degree programs play a key role in training much-needed skilled professionals. A major goal is to attract students from abroad. The progress in expanding international education at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is clear from the numbers. So far, over 100 students have applied for the "Software Design International" Bachelor’s program for the upcoming winter semester, and about 90 students have applied for the Master's program in International Management.

We want to provide our international students with a top-tier academic experience at AUAS, while also helping address the skilled labor shortage in the region. This is an ambitious but very achievable goal, as we’ve seen from similar figures at other universities in Bavaria.

Prof. Dr. Ivo Schäfer, Vice President AUAS

However, with the growing student body comes a greater need for suitable housing. The on-campus student dormitories are already at capacity, and according to Studierendenwerk Würzburg, students currently wait at least two semesters for accomodation there.

Affordable housing is key to ensuring our international students have a smooth transition and a successful academic journey.

AUAS President Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Beck-Meuth

Supporting Incoming Students is Crucial

To help international students adjust to life in Germany, Aschaffenburg UAS offers a variety of support services. These include orientation weeks with German language courses and excursions, as well as a "Buddy Program," where experienced students assist newcomers with organizational matters. These efforts are coordinated by the university's International Office, led by Ernst Schulten.

A Call for Public Support

The Aschaffenburg UAS is now reaching out to the German public for help in finding additional housing for students. Ernst Schulten, the contact person for this initiative (phone: 06021 4206714, ernst.schulten(at)th-ab.de), encourages anyone with available housing options in the region to get in touch:

Each additional housing opportunity helps us to give international students a strong start to their studies and boosts the region’s appeal for talented young people.

Ernst Schulten, Director of the AUAS International Office and Career Service
